Detailed Itineraries for Namibia – 11 Days
Day 1: Windhoek
After your arrival in Namibia's capital, you will receive your vehicle at a location that is most convenient for you. You can spend the afternoon relaxing at your accommodation or use the time to explore the city and its lively markets.
Day 2: Sesriem (330 km / 6 h)
After breakfast, your journey begins. You will drive on a mix of paved and gravel roads through impressive landscapes towards the Namib Desert. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to explore the Sesriem Canyon and enjoy the sunset with a cool drink. Tonight, you will sleep for the first time under the African starry sky – an unforgettable experience.
Day 3: Swakopmund (350 km / 6 h)
Early start to the day: After about 70 km, you’ll reach the Tsauchab River Valley and the famous dunes of Sossusvlei. A stop at the world-renowned Dune 45 for a coffee is a must! Afterwards, drive another 5 km with your 4×4 into the dune landscape of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei to explore the spectacular scenery. In the afternoon, continue to the coastal town of Swakopmund, with a stop in the small village of Solitaire for a slice of legendary apple pie.
Day 4: Swakopmund
Today is all about relaxation – no driving if you don’t feel like it. For the adventurous, there’s a wide range of activities to choose from: skydiving over the Namib, quad biking in the dunes, sandboarding with ocean views, or a trip to the Moon Landscape and the endemic Welwitschia plants.
Day 5: Spitzkoppe (280 km / 4 h)
After a relaxed morning, you’ll drive along the salt road toward Skeleton Coast National Park. Along the way, you'll have the chance to see shipwrecks stranded on the Atlantic coast. Next, visit the Cape Cross seal colony, home to up to 120,000 Cape fur seals – you might even spot a jackal. Afterwards, continue to the majestic Spitzkoppe, an impressive granite massif. Here, you can enjoy “wild camping” and take in the clear starry sky.
Day 6: Khorixas (340 km / 5 h)
Today, you’ll continue northward. You’ll pass through the small mining town of Uis and have the opportunity to visit the famous rock painting “The White Lady.” Afterwards, continue to the rock engravings of Twyfelfontein and finally to Khorixas, where you can also visit the Petrified Forest.
Day 7: Etosha National Park (250 km / 4 h)
Your journey continues northward, with a coffee stop in Outjo. About 100 km after Outjo, you’ll reach Etosha National Park, where you’ll spend two nights. The park is world-renowned for its impressive wildlife and the waterholes where you can observe elephants and rare black rhinos.
Day 8: Etosha National Park
A full day of safari adventure: After breakfast, you’ll move to another camp within the park and spend the day observing wildlife and enjoying exciting drives through the national park.
Day 9: Waterberg National Park (330 km / 4 h)
Today, you’ll leave Etosha National Park and have the opportunity along the way to visit the Grootfontein meteorite or Lake Otjikoto, where sunken weapons and relics from German troops in World War I can be seen. Continue on to Waterberg National Park.
Day 10: Waterberg National Park
A day full of relaxation and nature experiences. You can go for a hike up to the Waterberg Plateau and enjoy the breathtaking views. Alternatively, take a game drive with a local guide in an open safari vehicle. Another highlight is a visit to the German military cemetery from the Herero Wars – a historically moving site.
Day 11: Windhoek (280 km / 3 h)
Today you’ll head back to Windhoek. On the way, you can shop for souvenirs at the large market in Okahandja or at the tourist shops in Windhoek before returning your vehicle and starting your journey home.
