Detailed itineraries for Namibia – 20 days
Day 1: Windhoek
Upon arrival in Namibia’s capital, you’ll receive your vehicle at a location that’s most convenient for you. You can spend the afternoon relaxing at your accommodation or explore the city and its local markets.
Day 2: Quiver Tree Forest (510 km / 5.5 h)
You leave the capital and head south toward the Keetmanshoop area, home to the famous Quiver Tree Forest. The road is well-paved and takes you through Namibia’s vast landscapes – your first taste of the country’s endless open spaces.
Day 3: Fish River Canyon (170 km / 2.5 h)
After breakfast, you can take a closer look at the fascinating desert flora in the Quiver Tree Forest. Then you’ll leave the tar road and continue on gravel tracks leading to Fish River Canyon – the second-largest canyon in the world. After checking in at your accommodation, you can visit various viewpoints and enjoy the sunset with a cool drink at the canyon’s edge.
Day 4: Lüderitz (450 km / 5 h)
Today, you head toward the Orange River, which forms the border with South Africa. You’ll follow the river for a while to the small mining town of Rosh Pinah, then continue north into the world’s oldest desert – the Namib. Along the way, you can marvel at the wild desert horses before reaching Lüderitz on the Atlantic coast.
Day 5: Lüderitz
Start the day at a relaxed pace. Then you’ll have time to explore the sights of Lüderitz: the ghost town of Kolmanskop, the Diaz Cross, and Shark Island. A real highlight: enjoy lunch on the waterfront as the diamond boats return to port, followed by a breathtaking sunset over the Atlantic.
Day 6: Namgarab (350 km / 4 h)
Today, you say goodbye to the Atlantic and head back inland. If you like, you can visit the wild horses once more before continuing toward Namgarab – a region between the Namib Desert and the highlands of Namibia. You’ll spend the night near Duwisib Castle.
Day 7: Namgarab
A day full of relaxation and exciting wildlife viewing: enjoy game drives during the day and at night, and take in the natural surroundings of the area at your leisure.
Day 8: Sesriem (160 km / 2.5 h)
Today you’ll drive through spectacular landscapes toward the Namib Desert. In the afternoon, you can explore the Sesriem Canyon and enjoy the sunset with a cool drink. The night under the African starry sky will be magical.
Day 9: Swakopmund (350 km / 4 h)
Early start: A short detour into the Tsauchab River Valley takes you to Sossusvlei. A must: a coffee stop at the world-famous Dune 45. With your 4×4, you’ll then drive 5 km deeper into the dune landscape to reach Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. In the afternoon, the journey continues to the coastal town of Swakopmund, with a brief stop in the charming town of Solitaire for a slice of its legendary apple pie.
Day 10: Swakopmund
Today is all about relaxation. If you're up for it, you can join exciting adventures: skydiving over the Namib Desert, quad biking, sandboarding, or a trip to the Moon Landscape and the endemic Welwitschia plants.
Day 11: Brandberg (350 km / 4 h)
After a relaxing morning, you’ll drive along the salt road into the Skeleton Coast. Here, shipwrecks and the massive seal colony of Cape Cross await you. Up to 120,000 Cape fur seals can be seen here – and with some luck, a jackal in search of food. Continue on to Brandberg, famous for the “White Lady” rock painting.
Day 12: Palmwag (230 km / 3.5 h)
You continue your journey north, passing the rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, and reach an oasis in the desert where you can relax by the pool. With some luck, desert elephants may appear at the waterhole.
Day 13: Epupa Falls (430 km / 6.5 h)
Today you head toward the Angolan border. On the way, it's worth stopping at the Sesfontein Fort before continuing on to the impressive Epupa Falls.
Day 14: Epupa Falls
Here, the Kunene River plunges 37 m into the depths – a breathtaking spectacle. After visiting the falls, you can spend the afternoon however you like.
Day 15: Hobatere Concession (380 km / 5 h)
You leave the waterfalls and head toward Etosha National Park. Along the way, you’ll overnight in the Hobatere Reserve, where game drives offer the chance to spot rare desert lions and desert elephants.
Day 16: Etosha (350 km / 4 h)
Today, you enter Etosha National Park. In the afternoon, take some time to cool off by the pool — or head to one of the waterholes to enjoy the sunset while a variety of animals gather there.
Day 17: Etosha
A full day of safari: You’ll drive to another camp within the park and explore the fascinating wildlife.
Day 18: Omaruru (450 km / 4.5 h)
Today you’ll head south toward Omaruru, where you can spend the final days relaxing — with fascinating insights into Bushman culture or a visit to a cheetah conservation project.
Day 19: Omaruru
The final full day: Relax by the pool, go on one last game drive, take a bush walk, or visit a San village.
Day 20: Windhoek (250 km / 2.5 h)
Today you return to Windhoek, drop off your vehicle, and still have time to buy souvenirs – either at the large market in Okahandja or at the tourist markets in Windhoek. Then it's time to say goodbye and begin your journey home.
