Detailed Itineraries for Northern South Africa – 7 Days

Day 1: Johannesburg
After your arrival in Johannesburg, you’ll pick up your vehicle and spend a relaxing afternoon at your accommodation.
Day 2: Mapungubwe National Park (530 km / approx. 6 h)
After an early breakfast, you leave the city and head north toward the Zimbabwean border. You plan to arrive at your accommodation around midday. In the afternoon, you can go on your first game drive and visit the confluence of the Limpopo River, from where you can see South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana all at once. Tonight, you’ll spend your first night in the heart of the African bush.
Day 3: Kruger National Park (265 km / approx. 5 h)
After breakfast, you drive east to the northernmost camp in Kruger National Park. Once inside the park, enjoy a two-hour game drive to today’s camp. A great viewpoint along the way is “Crooks Corner,” where you can see Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa at a single glance.
Day 4 and 5: Kruger National Park
Today you'll get up early for a full day on safari. You’ll head to the central part of the park, known for its high concentration of wildlife, and spend two nights at a camp there.
Day 6: Panorama Route (170 km / approx. 3.5 h)
After an early start, drive about an hour to the exit gate of Kruger National Park. Then continue gradually up the escarpment – the boundary between the lowveld and the highveld. Watch for the sudden change in vegetation. Once at the top, you’ll have the chance to marvel at the famous “Three Rondavels” – impressive round rock formations on the edge of the Blyde River Canyon. This is the third largest canyon in the world and the largest green canyon. You’ll drive along its rim and enjoy spectacular views.
Day 7: Johannesburg (400 km / approx. 5 h)
Today’s route takes you through impressive scenery before arriving back in Johannesburg around midday.
